ACE Unda Dawg | About Us

Built from Experience. Driven by Purpose.

ACE Unda Dawg Basketball was founded by Jamal Harris — a lifelong student of the game, coach, and mentor committed to helping athletes grow in skill, discipline, confidence, and consistency. We train the body, sharpen the mind, and develop habits that translate on the court and in the classroom.

Jamal’s journey started young — building his foundation in elementary and middle school basketball and later competing at Bishop Hogan High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He continued his collegiate experience with time connected to Florida A&M and Missouri Western State University (1994–1999), where he learned first-hand what it takes to succeed at higher levels — the work, the pace, the accountability, and the mental edge.

That real-world experience turned into a calling: teaching the game the right way. Coaching isn’t just reps — it’s development, decision-making, leadership, and building a student-athlete who is prepared for opportunity when it shows up.

Coaching & Teaching Experience

Jamal’s coaching background is rooted in both school-based teaching and athletic development. Working inside school programs gave him a front-row view of what athletes truly need: structure, fundamentals, confidence-building, accountability, and consistent skill instruction that can be understood and executed.

Over the years, Jamal has coached and worked with athletes and programs connected to:

  • Bishop Hogan High School (Kansas City)
  • De La Salle Education Center
  • Derrick Thomas Academy
  • Imagine Renaissance

He has served athletes across levels — from youth fundamentals to middle school confidence-building to high school performance and preparation. His style emphasizes teaching as much as coaching: breaking down the “why,” building technique step-by-step, and helping athletes understand the game — not just play it.

Jamal’s love for the art of the game is what pushed ACE Unda Dawg beyond traditional team coaching. As he taught and coached inside schools, families began asking for a more focused and consistent development plan — something streamlined, technical, and personalized.

That’s where private coaching became the next step: Jamal began working with individual families and teams in need of structured, technical skill improvement — the kind that shows up in real games:

  • Ball handling under pressure
  • Footwork + finishing mechanics
  • Shooting form + shot preparation
  • Decision-making and pace
  • Defense fundamentals and effort habits
  • Confidence development and coachability

The result is a training environment where athletes don’t just “work hard” — they improve on purpose.

Recruiting: Built for the Whole Student-Athlete

Recruiting isn’t just highlights and hope — it’s preparation, communication, and fit. As a student-athlete and a coach, Jamal understands the needs of both sides of the recruiting relationship: what families want and what coaches actually need.

That understanding is why the ACE Unda Dawg Recruiting program exists — to create a streamlined process that benefits students and coaches by bridging the gap with clear information and professional communication.

  • For students: build a clean profile, clear strengths, and a realistic plan
  • For families: remove confusion and replace it with structure and expectations
  • For coaches: provide honest, organized information that supports decision-making

We also emphasize what many programs ignore: academics alignment. If a student needs tutoring, eligibility support, or study structure, we want to know early — because long-term opportunity requires more than athletic ability.

The ACE Unda Dawg recruiting approach is built on integrity and readiness: we don’t sell dreams — we develop athletes and help them present themselves in a way that coaches can trust.

  • Recruiting readiness + target-level clarity
  • Academic alignment + support needs (tutoring if needed)
  • Film guidance (what to show + how to label)
  • Professional outreach habits and follow-up routines
  • Coach-to-family communication that stays respectful and efficient

Bottom line: Jamal uses his strengths and local experience to build value on both ends — helping students be prepared and helping coaches identify athletes that are a true fit.

Our Philosophy

Development First

Every athlete starts with fundamentals. Training focuses on mechanics, decision-making, and habits that translate to real games — not just workouts.

Integrity Always

We don’t promise outcomes — we build preparation. Athletes earn opportunities through consistency, coachability, and real improvement.

Whole Student-Athlete

Skill matters, but so do grades, discipline, and communication. We support athletes with academic alignment and structure so they can stay eligible and ready.
